I felt frightened as if I were the man in the movie by those illusions, isolation, oppressions, and desperation. Perhaps I am an Asian and I don't really have the problems about sex and religion as those europeans. To sum up, this movie is with too much elements of panics for me and as a viewer, I wouldn't suggest this movie to my friends

On an endless high way in the huge wilderness in the U.S., a man was going to die alone, in his car. Does God answered his prayer and at the right moment, sent a stranger to save his life? The girl was like an angel, with the helping heart and kind action, rushed him to a hospital. Or else, a woman would lose her husband. Our world needs more angels like that girl.

When I first saw this movie, my eyes were caught by the subtitle “The road, time and rock and roll.” At the beginning of this movie, the car was driven by a man and rock and roll was playing aloud. That is the fundamental of a “road movie.” It also reminds me about Jack Kerouac’s novel “on the road,” which described the trip for search the real self of each human beings. The trip for the man in this movie is not on purposed, that is to say, the man did not know he would have a trip. However, I think the director also wants to give the audience a trip on the visual, so he used the hi-contrast on the color to reveal the scene you would see when you are “tripping.” As a matter of fact, he succeeded. I myself was touched when I saw the man tripping and I totally know what his feeling is. And that’s the best part in this movie for me.

This film, a highway movie, is hard to understand what the director wanted to present. I needed to pay attention to the narrator who mentioned that the man ate some poison food or drug so that he must drove to the hospital. After watching this film, I think that people can meet the one can give u hand in your life, although there are no intersections among each other. On the other hand, people also need to be careful in the unfamiliar place.

I would say the movie is not the style I like and it makes me uncomfortable. It's for sure that everyone has his or her preferred movie. In my point of view, a movie related to one's cultural background will bring the inspired responses. I am not familiar with the background of the movie -- highway movie and it's hard for me to understand the inside meaning and to create some feelings.

As to the movie , I have to confess that it is really hard for me to find out the meaning hidden behind the scene. Though I love the way that the movie director trying to express his thinking. He made a lot of "conflicts"-namely, silent and noisy, short and long, fast and slow and so forth. In addition, these conflicts make the emphasized parts more clear . Another, I stronglyly feel that a period of time , probably just several seconds, is a very short for someone;however, it may be a long and crucial period for another . In other words, time offers different meaning to different people.

In fact, I don't feel comfortable with this film, it makes me dizzy. I think the film is trying to convey us do not to take drugs or we may lost ourselves in some where we don't know, even worst.

I am sure that without Dr. Liou's explanation, I won't understand that the director present either. Before knowing what the road movie is, I have't notice the detail and implications in road movies. Therefore, after this class, I will see movies more carefully.
